New York- A self-proclaimed psychic from Wantagh, New York was arrested on June 30th for the alleged scamming of an unsuspecting woman. She told the woman that she was cursed and due to this lie, ended up taking almost $5,000 from her, according to the Nassau County police.
The fraudulent psychic is a 43-year-old woman named Lisa King who, according to the police, resides in the back section of her psychic shop in Wantagh on Railroad Avenue. The arrest happened because detectives discovered that King had given a 49-year-old woman several false psychic readings.
When the victim would go to the psychic shop, named Lisa’s Psychic Shop, King would lie to the woman and insist that she was “cursed”. She would then advise her that in order to remove the curse, she would have to pay King large amounts of money. All together, the woman ended up giving King about $4,900.
Detectives working on the case state that King would tell the victim that the money given to her would have to be buried and that she cannot talk to anyone or let anyone know about what she is doing otherwise the cleansing would fail and the curse would come back in full force and start to affect her loved ones. Unfortunately the police did not recover the money when they arrested her that day.
In New York fortune telling is considered a misdemeanor so King was charged three times; one third-degree grand larceny charge, one fourth-degree grand larceny charge, and the misdemeanor fortune-telling charge.
King was let out of her cell to attend her court date at the First District Court in Hempstead and it was there that she was released without the need to pay bail during her arraignment. When leaving the courthouse, King made sure to keep her face hidden from cameras and also refused to speak with reporters about what had happened, instead managing to push her way out of the packed area. Reporters even tried calling her at the phone number listed for her psychic shop hoping to speak with her over the phone but they were unsuccessful.
The media also attempted to speak to her lawyer, David Mirsky, but he was also unavailable for comment. He did however tell News12 Long Island that King’s business is purely “for entertainment purposes only”. He stated that the crimes mounted against his client have only been alleged, but did not speak of them in detail.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; there’s no such thing as curses. Don’t be fooled by these scammers.
