Logan, OH. – 33-year-old Jason Sams of Ashtabula, Ohio plead guilty on November 26th, 2012 to one count of sexual battery for sexually abusing a young boy aged 13 back in March of 2012.  The incident occurred in Hocking Hills, at a cabin Sams rented.

In exchange for pleading guilty to a felony in the third-degree, a charge of “endangering children” was dropped. There is currently a pre-sentence investigation taking place which was requested by Hocking County Common Pleas Court Judge John Wallace. After the findings of this investigation come to light, Sams will be sentenced for his crime- it is estimated that this will be in about six weeks.

Bill Archer is the Hocking County Assistant Prosecutor in the case and he is advocating for Sams to be sentenced to three years in prison and be required to register as a Tier 3 sex offender upon his release.

The maximum amount of time Sams could serve in prison for the sexual battery charge is a five-year term, along with a maximum fine of $10,000.

In March of 2012, a witness contacted the authorities stating that he had heard anguished cries coming from the cabin that Sams and a young boy were staying at. He also told them that at one point he saw Sams and a young boy kissing, and that when he went into the cabin Sams was staying at, (after he and the boy were gone) he noticed that the bed sheets were stained and he found eight used condoms in the room. When the witness was shown a photo of Sams, he positively identified him. This led to an investigation by the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, and Mike DeWine- the Attorney General for the Crimes Against Children Unit that took several months to complete. They completed the investigation in September and armed with information they had discovered about him, they searched Sams house and removed several boxes of evidence.

The used condoms that were taken from the cabin after the witness notified authorities of Sams’ actions came back positive for the DNA of both Sams and the young boy.

Before Sams was discovered and arrested, he worked as a reverend. He was also a fifth generation psychic. He used to teach mediumship courses at The Conscious Nest located in Cleveland. He also used to lead a ghost-hunting group there. After Sams plead guilty, his former employers at The Conscious Nest immediately erased all mentions of Sams and his employment with them, no longer wanting to be associated with him in any way. Aside from working there, Sams also owned his own business in North Kingsville- a computer repair business named Jason Sams Computer Services.

According to the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, Sams claimed to have predicted his own arrest.
